Baumhower's is Coming to Shoppes at Bel Air
MOBILE, Ala. - March 20, 2017 - The Shoppes at Bel Air announces that two premier and exciting retailers will be joining its dynamic merchandising mix this year: Baumhower's, a sports-themed casual dining restaurant founded by former University of Alabama and Miami Dolphins star Bob Baumhower, and Destination XL (DXL), the leading retailer of men's extra-large sized apparel. Baumhower's will occupy approximately 7,000 square feet of space in the newly constructed streetscape overlooking Airport Boulevard beginning this summer, while DXL will open a 5,500-square foot location adjacent to P.F. Chang's this spring.
"We are very happy to welcome these two high quality brands to the tenant lineup at The Shoppes at Bel Air," said Thomas Richardson, General Manager of The Shoppes at Bel Air. "Baumhower's is one of the most popular and visited restaurant chains in Alabama, so it made sense to add it to one of the state's most dominant retail destinations, and DXL is a new-to-market retailer that fills the void for a clothing store specializing in extra-large sized menswear."
Like at its 13 additional locations in Alabama, Baumhower's at The Shoppes at Bel Air will be a destination for all sports fans looking for legendary food and fun. The restaurant will feature over 70 jumbo flat screen HD TVs, community seating and covered patio area, while a mouthwatering menu includes a mix of power salads, hand-crafted burgers and world famous chicken wings and comfort foods like chicken pot pie, pot roast, and homemade desserts.
"I have enjoyed shopping and going to special events at The Shoppes at Bel Air for years," said Bob Baumhower, CEO and head fry cook. "I have very special memories of taking my kids there to meet Santa Claus when they were young. It is so exciting to be a part of the wonderful rebirth of The Shoppes at Bel Air. We can't wait to show the folks of Mobile our next new project."
DXL, a brand of the Destination XL Group, Inc., and the largest omni-channel specialty retailer of big & tall men's apparel, offers more than 2,000 private label and name brand styles to choose from, and features a unique blend of wardrobe solutions not available at traditional retailers.
"Our customers seek choices, value, convenience and a unique shopping experience, which DXL stores offer. Before DXL, these guys were relegated to shopping at the end of the rack in department stores," said David Levin, President and CEO of Destination XL Group.
Richardson added, "When we first announced our vision for the transformation of The Shoppes at Bel Air, we, along with city officials, made a commitment to provide this community with a retail experience that appropriately blended shopping, dining and entertainment, and one they would be proud of. We are very excited by all that has transpired over the past few months at the shopping center - from the continued development and completion of various phases of our transformation, to the unveiling of Belk's flagship location in Mobile, to the grand openings of H&M, P.F. Chang's, Grimaldi's among others, and today's announcement of Baumhower's and DXL. We believe we have made substantial progress in our vision to provide our friends in Mobile and beyond with the ideal gathering place and premier shopping destination in the entire Gulf Coast region. We look forward to continuing the momentum and serving our loyal patrons and families for many years to come."
