TROY, Ala. (WSFA) - If there’s one thing Troy fans have, it’s spirit. There wasn’t an empty seat at Troy’s Baumhower’s Victory Grille as fans gathered to watch the Trojans take on Kentucky.
Though Troy hasn’t been in the March Madness tournament since 2017, sophomore Tatum Colley Owen says, it’s no surprise the Trojans are competing this year.
“That’s just what we do,” said Owen, minutes into the first half of the game. “It’s the Trojan way; it’s what we expect, and I expect to win today.”
Though the Trojans were the underdogs, fans were confident their team could bust some brackets.
“I’m really excited to see how we do,” Howard Purvee, a Troy graduate student said. “I think we might pull off an upset.”
Fans were on the edge of their seats the whole game, showing their Trojan pride, cheering for the school they love.
“As long as we can keep it close, we can make some magic happen in those last two minutes and get the win,” said Owen.
Earlier in the week, Troy men’s basketball Head Coach Scott Cross revealed that liking the southern staple waffle house is almost a requirement to be signed to the troy men’s basketball team, and fans say, this requirement is a good idea.
“I think that makes a lot of sense,” said Purvee. “I think that shows they have good taste and it will translate well to the court.”
Though in the end, the Trojans were unable to pull off the win, the Trojan spirit is never lost.
